Tallow & Acne-Prone Skin: My Experiment

Hi, I’m Michelle, co-founder of Seacow Co. I, like many of you, deal with the burden of combination, acne-prone skin. I’ve tried many skincare products, with myriad chemicals, in the past, but as of late, I have given up and gone natural. That’s right - no cleanser, no toner, no serums, no moisturizer, of course no makeup to wash off - thinking this is the best thing I can do for my skin.

In the last few months, however, my brother, a whiz in the kitchen and a chef by trade, has been developing premium-quality tallow products for skincare. This made me consider a terrifying proposition for someone prone to breakouts: using an oil-based moisturizing cleanser on my face. Cue ominous music.

Pasture-raised, grass-fed, and grass-finished tallow is a no-brainer in terms of my desire for a quality, simple, natural alternative to chemical-laden cleansers from the drugstore. But I was understandably afraid of the skincare beast: clogged pores. But my thirst for softer, smoother, more conditioned skin made me brave. Why not try? So I did.

One-month in and I am happy to say the clogged-pore beast has not reared its ugly, acned head! I use our Cleansing Tallow Balm once a day in the evenings, to keep the simple routine I am used to, and have not broken out any more than is natural for me. I’ve got to say I’m loving how soft and smooth my skin is now and personally recommend this product to anyone willing to try their own experiment. Good luck!

As a side note, our Nude Tallow Balm pairs well for a simple, natural skincare routine for those who crave extra moisture.
